Friday 15th September

Date: 15th Sep 2023 @ 5:39pm

As a Year 6 pupils, we get lots of exciting jobs and responsibilities within the school year. This week, we had the opportunity to meet our reception buddies and spend some time getting to know them. We all enjoyed sharing different games and activities with our buddies and it was lovely to see their bright smiles and hear their infectious giggles. There are some lovely photographs that have been uploaded to Twitter for you to see. We will have many shared activities throughout the year including buddy lunch, buddy reading and even get to present our own Christmas performance. This was only the start of a very exciting journey together.

In Literacy, we started to look at our new text called 'Star of Fear, Star or Hope'. We have been introduced to two little girls called Lydia and Helen. Within the story, we see Lydia's mum sewing a yellow star onto her clothing and as a class we discovered that during WW2, Jewish people were expected to wear this to show others their religious beliefs. We have written our own predictions for the story, researched key vocabulary linked to the topic of WW2 and wrote a speech sandwich based on a conversation between two characters.

In Maths, we have been focusing on placed value to 10,000,000. We have looked at reading and writing numbers to 10,000,000, powers of 10, identifying numbers on a number line as well as ordering and comparing integers.

In our Science topic of light, we have been focusing different light sources, how light travels in straight lines and how light reflects of an object to our eye which then allows us to see the object.

In History, we have started with creating our own timeline of what happened in WW2. We discovered that WW2 began in 1939 and ended in 1945. When researching our facts, we were amazed to see just how many different countries were involved in the war.

In Computing, we have been looking at how data is sent through the internet in small packets. We have focused on sending our own packets of information through a network and the key information that is required to ensure it reaches the right IP address.

Year 6 should be very proud of their hard work this week, showing maturity and great independence.

Have a great weekend!
