Year 1 15th March 2024

Date: 15th Mar 2024 @ 4:43pm

We have had a fabulous week in Year 1.

On Monday, we started our learning about the Great Fire of London. We talked about the word 'great' and how it also describes the size of something. We plotted a timeline of a class and thought carefully about why the fire happened, why it spread so fast and the impact it had on London. Next week, we look forward to creating our own timelines.

In our maths lessons, we started to use our number bonds to speed up addition and subtraction. If we know that 5 - 3 = 2, then we know that 15 - 3 = 12. We explored how the ten doesn't change by looking at numicon and counters on tens frames.

We have also started our work on doubles.  We are going to try and start to remember all our doubles to double 10.  Eg up to 10+10

We enjoyed our visit from Clare House Hospice and especially learning some Makaton with Clare Bear herself!

Mrs Weston has been in to read a story to us and we have discussed how parts of the story link to our colour Zones of Regulation.

Finally, we looked carefully at kind and unkind words. We learnt that saying unkind words makes people feel sore inside; in their head, in their heart and gives them worries in their tummy. When we say 'sorry'' it is like a plaster which helps to fix that person, but it doesn't always fix them completely, or speedily. Our unkind words can last a long time in someone’s mind. We finished by writing positive kind words in each other's 'Jar of Kindness'.

And there was much more.

Have a rest this weekend children!
