Year 1 Friday 15th September

Date: 15th Sep 2023 @ 1:55pm

Our first full week back has been bursting with learning, fun and smiles. The transition to Year 1 is challenging but the children are being very resilient and making us all so proud. Please support your child's transition by asking them about positive parts of their day at home!

We enjoyed reading a book about a baby panda, followed by some funny videos of them being clumsy. We also made panda masks in the provision. For our writing, we looked at our new text, Lost and Found, labelling images of the seaside, followed by some simple sentences about what we can see and hear at the beach.

In science, the children explored the roll of scientists and some colour mixing. For geography, we compared cities and villages. We loved the word 'skyscrapers' to describe the tall buildings found in cities.

For spellings this year, all Year 1s will have the same. We are focussing on high frequency and common exception words, as well as some words from our writing lessons. Please practise these in the purple books provided. We will test the children each Friday. We will work towards a spelling list of 10 words.
