Year 2 24.11.23

Date: 23rd Nov 2023 @ 1:57pm

It's starting to feel like Christmas in Year 2 as we are singing our Prickly Hay songs and have gone full speed with our rehearsals. I cannot tell you how proud I am of the children, learning their lines, singing beautifully, showing their confidence on stage, remembering dance moves... and so much more!

Thank you for your support with helping your child learn their line/s at home. Myself and Miss Holgate really appreciate it. Also a big shout out to our parent volunteers for creating props and scene backgrounds! We really couldn't put these shows together without parent involvement and we are really looking forward to our big day(s)!

This week has been BUSY! We have been creating expanded noun phrases to desribe alternate settings, investigating different conjunctions and exploring which conjunctions work best with a variation of information sentences, and researching lots of owl facts in preperation for creating our very own owl information leaflets. Homework this week is to support with further owl research at home.

Miss Read, our student teacher, has been teaching the children how to use view finders within our art lessons and has been investigating photography with them. The children have been taking their own photographs and have been thinking about what makes a good photo.

Within maths this week we have been looking at related addition facts... for example

We know that 4+5=9

So we also know that...

14+5=19

4+15=19

24+5=29

4+25=29 and so on..

This has really had our brains turning!

We have also been relating our knowledge of bonds to 10, to create bonds to 100.

The children would like to share with you...

Jessica - we have been learning about The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark and we have found words to describe Plop. In maths we have been finding facts families.

Max - we have been adding up to 10 and then using this to add up to 100.

Jack - we have been finding bonds to 20

Olivia - in Literacy we have been finding ways to describe Plop the owl

Charlotte - in Literacy we have been writing about what Plop looks like
