Spellings: test date 22.9.23

here Additional spellings that link to our Geography learning:
there North
where East
love South
come West

Next week, we will start our daily spelling lessons. We will be hunting round our classroom to find our new words, using them in sentences, writing dictation sentences and writing them in fun ways to help ourselves remember them.

Most weeks, we will have 5 spellings. However, some weeks we will have additional spellings that link and support our learning. These will be words that we will use frequently. This week, we are looking at compass points so the additional spellings support our Geography work.

We've had a lovely first full week in school. The children have done science, RE, maths and PE with Mrs Taylor. With Miss Wooldridge, they have been looking at numbers up to 100 and figuring out how many tens and ones different numbers have. They have also thought of some fantastic adjectives and worked in groups to write some poetry. Mrs Cox taught the children for an afternoon this week and they learnt all about where different food comes from - under the ground, on trees, in bushes, from farm animals. We have started phonics lessons and all children have showed us what brilliant readers they are.

Homework - this week's homework is an optional one! You will have already recieved a school spider message/ email about our School and Sport Councillor elections. Please find the letter attached as well.

Additions from the children in Year 2:

Jessica wanted to tell everyone that we have been reading The Colour Monster in our Literacy lessons.

Hattie wanted to tell everyone that we have been learning the compass points North, East, South, West. Ask your child how we remember these!

Charlotte wanted to tell everyone that we have been writing 'I am...' poems in Literacy for The Colour Monster's feelings. Ask your child what feeling they wrote their poem about. They were all amazing!

We are looking forward to another busy week in Year 2! Have a lovely weekend everyone.
