Modern Foreign Languages (French)
MFL (French) at MTVS
At MTVS we enable our pupils to make substantial progress in the French language. Our teaching provides an appropriate balance of spoken and written French across KS2, and lays the foundations for further language study at KS3. Teaching enables pupils to understand and communicate ideas, facts and feelings in speech and writing, focused on familiar and routine matters, using their knowledge of phonology, grammatical structures and vocabulary. The focus of language study is on practical communication. This includes the application of the French language in real life applications so as to include elements of cultural context (i.e. difference to their home culture) e.g. school life in France, and visits to different areas of France. We are committed to developing strong, lifelong linguistic skills and to encourage pupils to become curious and interested in the world. We want all of our pupils to have a love of languages. We endeavour to inspire all MFL practitioners/peers through collaboration, support and modelling exceptional practice.
We are proud to deliver high-quality language education in partnership with Primary Languages Network (PLN). Their specialist-led approach, including native speaker video teaching and whole-school CPD, ensures our pupils experience engaging, progressive language learning from Year 3 to Year 6. With structured planning, upskilling tools for teachers, and a focus on confidence and continuity, this programme prepares our children for future language success in secondary school and beyond.
